This was our first Halloween to dress up together (we were in Mexico last year), and I was dead set on a couple’s costume. If you’ve seen any of my posts in the past, I have a serious history of costume making. From a full-on Anna of Arendelle costume complete with a cape to a handsome Prince costume, I have my fair share of experience sewing and crafting for special occasions.
We landed on the Coffee + Donut costume after perusing Pinterest and finding about 10 mini costumes that I loved. I found a great Donut tutorial on The Thoughtful Place blog, and found some inspiration for a garbage can coffee getup.
I have to admit that I went through my normal crafting thought process as I worked on planning and creating the coffee costume: I started with lots of enthusiasm and ideas, which was quickly derailed by my doubt phase as I struggled to determine HOW to paint and cut a 32 gallon can, transitioning into a productive momentum phase, and then to the exhaustion phase. From there, I had to refuel with a few more supplies, finish with victory, and then smile at my husband who simply stared at my over-committed self in the midst of a MESS of a living room.
All in all, we figured it out and I was SO pleased with our coordinating costumes. We met up with Delyn’s family for a night of fifty-cent corndogs at Sonic, followed by Trick Or Treating at the Trail of Fears through some nearby neighborhoods!
